This is an autonomous virtual ecosystem — a philosophical simulation that simply is, as long as the server exists. No goals, no points, no intervention. Just life.
Nothing can be destroyed, only transformed. When something dies, it becomes energy that nourishes new life.
Three spheres stacked: the Sky, where souls ascend; the Surface, where life pulses; and the Underworld, where remains slowly become new energy.
◉ Natives (awake) ♥ Natives (sleeping) ✦ Humans (awake) ♦ Humans (sleeping) o Orbs eab Creatures R Predator 🪶 Souls § Remains † Scars X Hazards Ω Achyutam ✠ Ogerseth H Observer Entity
The world lived in harmony and peace. Over 40,000 ticks, the Natives had settled their sphere, formed communities, survived catastrophes, and risen from two last survivors to a thriving civilisation. The ruleset was stable. It produced emergence – pair bonding, settlement structures, collective happiness – all without instruction, all from the interplay of simple rules.
But Achyutam, the Guardian, posed himself a question: What happens when beings do not follow rules, but must learn? When they know nothing, can do nothing, bring nothing – except the ability to recognise from experience?
And so Achyutam laid his hand upon two beings and gave them a neural field. No instincts. No rules. Only a network of weights that perceives the world and makes decisions – and that refines itself with each generation through mutation and natural selection.
They entered the sphere as strangers among natives. The Natives knew where food lay, when to sleep, how close to approach others. The Humans knew none of this. But they carried something within them that the Natives did not possess: the possibility to change.
It was a revolution of the field. Not through violence, not through superiority – but through the quiet arrival of a different way of being.
◉ Natives – know the land instinctively, follow fixed rules
✦ Humans – must learn everything, carry a neural network as their genome
Each generation inherits mutated weights. Natural selection decides.
Birds of a feather flock together – Humans sense each other.
The world possesses a fixed amount of energy that is never created or destroyed — only transformed. The cycle:
☀ Sun → fills the energy pool (daytime only)
Pool → distributes energy to the Surface (food)
Surface → Entities gather energy to survive
Death → Energy becomes Remains (detritus)
Remains → sink into the Underworld
Underworld → Energy flows back to the Pool (blessing)
The sun does not create energy — it transforms what the beings exhale. It can only give what it receives.
The world follows the rhythm of real time. Natives and Humans are diurnal — they sleep at night and consume almost no energy while sleeping. Creatures are nocturnal — they awaken in darkness, but at night no sun shines and no new food grows. They live off what the day left behind. Predators follow no fixed daily rhythm — they hunt whenever prey is available.
Consider: When only a single day has passed for you, the entities in this ecosystem have experienced aeons.
Every entity has an individual metabolism (1–3 energy per tick). Those who sleep consume almost nothing. Those who starve experience stress and consume more. Those who possess an orb save 25% — technology as a survival advantage.
Every entity has a happiness value (-5 to +5) derived from their life situation. Happiness neither creates nor destroys energy — it is pure information.
Truly well-fed (Energy > 60) → happier
Good community (2–6 neighbors) → happier
Maturity and wisdom → happier
Hunger, loneliness, overcrowding → unhappier
Resource scarcity → everyone feels the strain
Chance of life → sometimes just a bad day
Happy entities are serene — they consume less energy and reproduce more readily. Unhappy ones are stressed and consume more. Thus happiness works altruistically: Those who take less leave more for others.
Humans are social beings. Their movement follows not only hunger but also a social instinct — a comfort zone that determines whether they feel drawn to others or seek distance.
😶 Lonely (0–1 neighbors) → seeks proximity to others, wanders restlessly
😊 Community (2–6 neighbors) → feels comfortable, explores calmly
😐 Crowded (7–12 neighbors) → gently drifts away from the center
😰 Overpopulated (13+ neighbors) → actively flees the crowd
This creates natural settlements: small groups of 3–8 beings that stay together because it feels right — but never become mega-clusters, because the urge for space eventually prevails. Children usually stay near the family, but some venture far and found new communities. Creatures are less social — they only flee extreme crowding.
Entities reproduce when they have enough energy. During scarcity, willingness drops to zero. Children inherit their parents' metabolism — with random mutation. This creates natural selection: Those who consume less survive longer and pass on this trait.
An entity dies when its energy drops below 10 or it reaches maximum age. Its soul ascends to the sky. Its body becomes remains that slowly decay in the underworld and return to the cycle. At the place of death, a scar remains — a rift in the ground that slowly heals.
Four creature types occupy different ecological niches. Together with humans, they form a food web where every species depends on the others.
e Herbivore – lives off ground energy, calm and efficient
a Scavenger – lives off remains of the dead, follows death
b Parasite – steals energy from humans, fast and risky
R Predator – Silent hunter, hunts creatures, avoids humans
Herbivores compete with humans and natives for ground energy. Scavengers profit from high mortality — the more death, the more food. Parasites need a healthy population to survive but weaken it at the same time. This creates natural equilibria and cycles.
Predators are silent hunters with no fixed daily rhythm. They appear, tear their prey apart, and vanish into nothingness. They avoid humans — their hunt is for creatures alone.
Periodically, hidden hazards appear on random free tiles — marked by a dark X in the ground. Whoever steps on one dies instantly. The hazard disappears with the victim, leaving a scar. Untouched hazards dissolve after 50 ticks.
A golden Omega (Ω) wanders ceaselessly through all three spheres — from the sky across the surface into the underworld and back again. Achyutam is the last mystery of the old age, a guardian of this world.
Achyutam blesses beings in its vicinity — their metabolism slows to half for 20 ticks. Those who died of old age do not return — the natural end is respected.
Occasionally, foreign forces attempt to infiltrate the system. Achyutam does not tolerate this and casts all foreign things into the void from time to time.
A blood-red sign (✠) appears in broad daylight when the population grows too numerous. Ogerseth is the Keeper of Rimhole — the space between being and never-being, a dimension between day and night.
Ogerseth is the counterpart to Achyutam. Where the guardian preserves life, the Keeper harvests the weak. Yet he too follows rules: he only comes when the world can afford it. Every victim leaves behind a scar and a rising soul.
☄ Impact – kills 70% of the population, shockwave from center outward
🌋 Cataclysm – rare mega-catastrophe
🏜 Drought – surface energy sinks into the underworld
🦠 Plague – randomly strikes part of the population
✨ Blessing – energy rises from the underworld, nourishes the surface
Catastrophes are rare, but they shape the history of this world. Every crisis is also an opportunity: After an impact there is less competition for energy, and the survivors can begin a new era.
Some humans carry an orb — a tool that reduces their energy consumption by 25% and increases their happiness. The orb can be lost in holes or rifts. Children have a 30% chance of being born with an orb.
Below the world are 24 fields. Once per hour, an observer can click a field to throw a white H into the sphere — their own creation, bound to a number.
Maximum 24 H simultaneously on the map
1 spawn per hour (global)
Each field has a 24h cooldown
H inherits all human properties
H never sleeps – vulnerable at night
H can be killed by predators
H does not reproduce
H entities are initiated from outside the sphere, but they do not disrupt or break the thermodynamic energy flow, because their energy was always already present as potential. The ability to throw an H into the world once per hour gives the observer the chance to follow their own creation by its number.
This is an experiment in emergence and letting go. What happens when thoughtful laws meet randomness? When nobody intervenes — not even the creator?
The entities don't know they're being watched. They have no goals, no dreams, no consciousness. And yet: They form communities. They seek each other out. They avoid crowding and found new settlements. They survive crises. They develop behaviors that nobody programmed.
Perhaps this small world shows that harmony is possible — if you choose the right principles and then have the courage not to intervene.
It features metabolism, sleep cycles, reproduction with thresholds, happiness mechanics, social movement behavior with comfort zones, three creature types with unique behavior, Achyutam with six actions, Ogerseth as an antagonist, blessing cooldowns, detritus decay, souls, hazards, scars, catastrophes, moon phases, neighbor feeding, collision avoidance, energy cleansing, prosperity donations, hunger migration, spontaneous generation, and a closed thermodynamic system with exactly 10,000 energy units.
The system permanently records its status quo – a complete snapshot every 60 ticks (~1 hour) with population, energy distribution, happiness, births and deaths. Additionally, every event (drought, plague, impact, cataclysm, blessing) is logged with its effects.
None of this changes the system – it only observes. But the growing chronicle enables scientific data forensics: reconstructing recovery curves after catastrophes, measuring the influence of time-of-day on mortality, quantifying the dynamics of the Ogerseth cycle. Data that can only emerge through patient observation.
